Technology Policy

Artificial Intelligence

We expect students to bring their own work to the conference and to use their own words in policy statements, speeches, and resolutions. Although artificial intelligence can be used in the research and brainstorming phase, it should only be used as a guide. AI should not be used to directly write any part of submitted documents or speeches. “Reworded” AI results are also not allowed in documents and speeches.

TASMUN will take the following steps to prevent the misuse of AI:

  1. Directors/Advisors are highly encouraged to run their delegates’ resolutions and opening speeches through AI detection software before the conference.

  2. All resolutions may be run through AI detection software at the Approval Panel.

  3. Advisors and Pages will be monitoring delegates for the use of AI services during the conference.

This policy hopes to keep the conference as authentic as possible while encouraging students to develop their impromptu public speaking skills, one of the goals of a MUN conference. If any delegate is found to give or submit policy statements, speeches, resolutions or any other work written by AI software, their advisor(s) will be notified immediately.

Cellphone & Technology Use
We expect there will be no phone usage during the committee sessions to ensure productive debate and full engagement.

Therefore:

  1. Delegates must leave their phones at the door as they enter committees.

  2. Cellphone usage is permitted outside of committee rooms during lunches and breaks.

  3. Student Officers with their phones out during committee sessions will be immediately removed from their positions.

Laptops and tablets are allowed on the podium and during committee sessions. However, delegates are expected to be attentive when a speaker is giving a speech. Therefore, when any delegate is at the podium all laptops and tablets must be closed.
